Maybe no one here has any experience with using a Cintiq touch tablet drawing screen with iMac. Have you tried posting our issues at Wacom's own user forums or emailing/calling Wacom tech support? It sounds as if you have a fairly new iMac if it has Thunderbolt.

What kind of video/monitor cable connection does your Cintiq use? DVI or Mini DVI, mini display port or Thunderbolt?

Does your iMac model have a mini display port? If the Cintiq works using a DVI connection, you would need some sort of adapter cable ( Thunderbolt to DVI or Mini Display Port to DVI) and try to see if Target Display Mode has the ability to detect the Cintiq as a second monitor If both screens use Thunderbolt, Target Display Mode should work. Here's a guide to how Target Display Mode works Good Luck!

You should be able to purchase either the MiniDisplayPort to DVI adaptor (best) or the MiniDisplayPort to VGA adaptor (acceptable). Apple sells these parts, as do some third-party manufacturers, like Monoprice and StarLink. Links to the Brazil store: MiniDisplayPort is the same connection as Thunderbolt: both work. The Cintiq uses DVI-I to recieve signals, and should include two short cables: One VGA(male) to DVI-I (female), and one DVI-D (male) to DVI-I (female). If you are missing those cables, you will need to buy the right adapter as well.

Wacom recommends this brand- though it calls itself DVI-D(digital), it is really DVI-I(interchangable) if you look at the holes - without those four little holes at the end it won't fit the Cintiq. The one I bought from Mac was a true DVI-D and did not have those four little holes and if you force it it will just mess up the prongs.

I realize you probably already solved this by now- but just in case someone is searching on this topic (Like me a week ago) thought it might be useful to put the info out there. I actually got the same tablet working on a few machines: 17', Late 2006 (Mini DVI) 10.6 20', Early 2008 (Mini DVI) 10.6, 10.7 21', Mid 2011 (Thunderbolt) 10.8 Use the DVI-D adapter for your iMac's Mini-DVI or MiniDisplayport/Thunderbolt port, then the included DVI-D to DVI-I cable. Be sure the input switch on the cintiq is set to 'DVI' I was missing my original Wacom cable, so I used the 'Tripp Lite P118-000 DVI-D Male to DVI-I Female Adapter'. Works perfectly.

The same setup works with Mac-VGA, VGA -DVI-I, if your Cintiq is set to VGA. It works, but the image quality is noticably (although not unusably) worse. Hey there, I was hoping to see if you ever got your Cintiq 21UX to work with your iMac. I have a 24' 2008 ( Mini DVI ) 10.8.5 and can't seem to get it synced. It works right away on my older 17' iMac ( White Frame ). I took it into an authorized Apple repair place I've been going to for years and they couldnt figure it out. It's not my Mini DVI port.

They tried connecting the Cintiq 21UX to a newer slim iMac verson no sync.along with a new PowerBook, same deal. I emailed Wacom Support to see if there's anything. I saw your post and wanted to see if maybe you figured it out. Thanks again.

Hi, I haven't had any problems hooking it up. I'm not sure what the problem might be in your case. If you're using the exact same Mini DVI adaptor on the 17' iMac and 24' iMac, there shouldn't be any other settings to change. You might want to try turning 'Mac Sleep Mode' off in the tablet's on-screen controls. If you're switching from VGA to DVI, then you need to make sure the switch at the back has been changed. (please note, my version is the older DTZ-2100D. If you use the newer DTK-2100, some of the buttons and controls may have changed, although the adaptor information I've given above hasn't).

I was on the phone extensively with both apple care and Wacom til essentially both said stop calling us. Scottradeelite download for mac. The nearest I can figure out is that some early model 21UXs are not compatible with OS8. I kind of gave up on trying to get them to play together for now. Someone suggested I could possibly partition my iMac so that part of it runs on OS7 but have not tried it yet.

I found a few posts on the web of folks with 21UXs who said their Cintiq stopped working when they upgraded to OS8. But Wacom said they have 21UXs hooked up to iMac's in their testing area and they work fine- but when I pressed them one guy said that there was something that changed in the 21UXs during their run that might possibly be the culprit. It is frustrating as at present I can not use my cintiq -and when I purchased the iMac I specifically asked the salesman at Apple if it would work with a Cintiq as that was one of my primary goals- to have a higher power computer for the images I was working on.

Seems to come down to old technology not playing with new technology. The iMac detects the Cintiq for about 5 seconds in the display screen- then it disappears. Apple Footer.
