Exports of the Q45 ceased after 2006, but the Cima continued to be sold in Japan until August 2010, when production of both the Cima and President ended. 1994-1996 facelifted version Overview Also called Nissan Infiniti Q45 Production August 1989–June 1996 1990–1996 Shunji Yamanaka (1987) Body and chassis Related Powertrain 4.5, 280 PS (206 kW; 276 hp) 4–speed Dimensions 1990–91: 113.2 in (2875 mm) 1992–96: 113.4 in (2880 mm) Length 199.8 in (5090 mm) Width 71.9 in (1825 mm) Height 1990–1993: 56.3 in (1430 mm) 1994-1996: 54 in (1425 mm) The first generation Q45 came to market in 1989 as a 1990 model. Car magazines and reviewers were impressed by the Q45's performance such as a 0–60 mph acceleration time of 6.7 seconds and handling. Its high-output 4.5 L V8 engine is rated at 278 hp (207 kW) and 292 lb⋅ft (396 N⋅m). All Q45s include a VLSD (viscous ), as part of a. The name for the Q45 was inspired by the term ', implying a high-performance vehicle without a high-performance appearance.

In Japan, it was sold as the Nissan Infiniti Q45, and was exclusive to locations, as its platform twin the President was exclusive to Nissan Motor Store locations. 1995 Infiniti Q45 In terms of styling, the Q45 was a distinctive vehicle. Infiniti sought assistance from Italian furniture maker, and attempted to redefine the modern luxury sedan by offering a car with the usual amenities, such as a sound system, leather interior, power adjustable front passenger seats with two position memory feature that also electrically adjusted the steering wheel and exterior mirrors, one-touch power windows, digital climate control and keyless entry system. However, the leather seats were more firm than other competitors, instead of cushy couch-like seats and a lack of chrome or woodgrain interior trim.

The car's interior was crafted to appeal to the sense of touch, using padded surfaces throughout the vehicle, with stark color contrasts such as a pearl white exterior with white leather upholstery, interior door panels, and carpeting with black floor mats, center console and dashboard. It was equipped with ergonomically designed and located window switch on the top of the door pull handle operated by the drivers thumb, and the instrument lighting being much more noticeable at night than during the day, using a reverse effect of white light on the gauges with black numbers. The Q45's use of a insignia instead of a conventional also caused buyers to shy away because of its unconventional, appearance, and may have been influenced from the first generation, the 1994 model year update featured a more conventional appearance including a more traditional appearing grille, woodgrain/chrome interior trim and cushy seats, drawing influences from the. More sedate performance figures, slower 17:1 steering (except on the Q45t, which retained the original 15.1:1 ratio), lower ratio 1st and 2nd gears, and a dynamically smooth suspension were all added in 1993 to make it a more status-quo luxury sedan. Other changes include thicker glass, keyless remote, auto-dim rear-view mirror, dipping side view mirrors, an improved transmission heat exchanger and external ATF filter, new oval intake ports and revised disc injectors, and fog lights.

Metal-backed camshaft timing chain guides were added in 1993 to replace the earlier model's less reliable plastic guides. The Q45 came in three variations: base, Q45t and Q45a. The Q45t and Q45a featured a at both the front and rear wheels, and included a rear stabilizer bar (with the ' a ' model being larger in diameter) and both models having a 1 mm smaller in diameter front sway bar, rear spoiler, forged alloy wheels, 4-wheel steering. HICAS and the faster steering ratios was discontinued in the 1995 Q45t model and the Q45a model was not imported in 1996. In 1991 a full ' (FAS)' was introduced.

It employed 10 sending signals to at each wheel. It was designed to reduce, dive and pitch. Very similar to 's (introduced in 1999 on the ).

While 's (and 's flagship, the ) were a stunning success, Infiniti Q45 sales never took off due in part to a notorious advertising campaign which did not include actual photos or information about the car. Poor sales were also blamed on the car's unconventional styling, particularly the grille and lack of interior woodgrain or chrome trim. In 1991 the Infiniti brand was launched in Australia with the sole model on offer being the Q45. With a price of A$140,000, the Q45 sold poorly and the brand was subsequently withdrawn from the market in 1993. The G50 chassis continued in production in Japan until 2002 as the President in both regular and extended wheelbase versions.

The Japanese version had many options that never appeared on the North American G50. Second generation FY33 (FGY33) Second generation (Y33) Overview Also called FGY33 Production July 1996–December 2000 1997–2001 Itaru Sugino (1993) Body and chassis Related Y33 Y33 Y33 Powertrain 4.1 L 4-speed with manual shift Dimensions 111.4 in (2830 mm) Length 1996-99: 199.1 in (5056 mm) 2000-01: 199.6 in (5069 mm) Width 71.7 in (1820 mm) Height 2000-01: 56.9 in (1445 mm) 1996-99: 57.1 in (1450 mm) The platform added a new model called the in Japan, and Q45 in North America starting in 1996; this generation Q45 shared a platform with the older and which were of the shorter class. The Japanese Cima replaced the Nissan Infiniti Q45 at Nissan Prince Store dealerships. This Q45 had a more conventional appearance but inferior performance with a smaller 4.1 L engine that produced 266 hp (199 kW) and acceleration figures of 0-60 in about 7.5 seconds.

From this model, both the Q45 and the were merged. The all-multilink suspension was changed to at the front end, and was further tuned for comfort. The steering slowed down even more to an 18.5:1 ratio. Traction control was standard. None of this did much to help the car's sales; Q45 sales in the North American market remained much lower than sales of its primary competitor, the Lexus LS. The 2000 Q45 Anniversary Edition had the highest trim level available for the second-generation Q45.

This trim level was standard on the 2001 models. The Q45t was the most expensive vehicle in the Infiniti (excluding the AE for 2000) lineup and offered enhanced performance, a rear spoiler, heated seats, dynamically adjusted shock absorbers and other luxurious features not available in a standard Q45. The car's appearance was slightly altered for 1999. For this year, were added and the analog clock returned.

Minor styling changes were made to the front and rear fascias. 17' wheels and an electronic adjustable suspension became standard on the Q45t. Numerous safety improvements in 1998 model were augmented in the 1999 and 2000 models. Standard features for the second-generation Q45 included a leather interior with fake woodgrain trim, but no dual climate control, a audio system with eight speakers with an in-dash single disc CD player, auto dimming rear view mirror, automatic light on and delay off timer, and steering wheel-mounted cruise control and head unit control. Also standard was a memorized adjustment system for the driver's seat and steering wheel. A CD changer and heated seats were available as options. The car was sometimes derisively referred to as the 'Q41' due to its reduced displacement and lesser performance.

Nearly all Infinitis before or since have used a two-digit number following a letter to indicate displacement; the second-generation Q was an exception (as was the clone ). Pre-facelift Infiniti Q45 Introduced as a concept at the 2000, the Q45 was completely redesigned for 2002, as was the and the President. This Q45 focused on performance again with a new 340 hp (253 kW) 4.5 L, inspired HID headlights, and sharper styling. The car featured a 5-speed with overdrive. Development began in 1996, with exterior designs under Mamori Aoki being frozen in 1998 and patented in March 2000.

It was the first Infiniti with laser. Despite good reviews, sales remained poor — just 1129 were sold in the United States for all of 2005. This Q45 has received praise from, Edmunds and Consumer Guide. Low sales are attributed not to the car’s overall quality or performance, but to lack of advertising and the debatable of the Infiniti. The 2003 model was given a number of under the skin upgrades including a new security system, a numerically higher final drive ratio (for better acceleration - decreasing highway ), reprogrammed TCU, and during the year, a option. The CD player was now a one at a time feed into the dash. The Q45 received a number of upgrades for the 2005 model year, including new front and rear fascias, restyled hood and grille, restyled trunk lid, new headlight design, integrated fog lights and LED taillights.

Inside were new contoured seats, white luminescent gauge markings, chrome accents and dark maple trim. 2005 upgrades also included a recalibrated transmission and new 17' alloy wheels. The following features were standard in the Q45: all- interior, power sunroof, 8-way power front seats, remote keyless entry, rain-detecting wipers and side curtain airbags. Standard electronics include: CD, 8 speakers, RearView Monitor parking camera system, and a voice-activated navigation system.

The 2002 Q45 was the first vehicle to ever offer voice-activated navigation controls and a reverse parking camera outside Japan, following the JDM 1991 Toyota Soarer. The car seated five and had a base price of 56,200.

Replacement The Q45 was no longer exported to the USA after 2006, being unintentionally replaced by a newly redesigned. While the M45 has a shorter length than the Q45, it boasts more interior room, greater performance, a superior rear and front, and much friendlier ergonomics, so it succeeded the Q45 as Infiniti's flagship. A new Q flagship was anticipated by the end of the 2000s decade. According to Mark Igo, the general manager of Infiniti North America, 'the new Q will make the brand better, but it is questionable whether it will be very profitable'. Infiniti introduced the next iteration of its flagship, the Y51 series 37/56 / in November 2009. The new Infiniti M is only 50 mm (2.0 in) shorter than the final generation Q45, with the same width dimensions of 1,845 mm (6.1 ft) and height of 1,515 mm (5.0 ft) compared to the F50 series Cima of 1,490 mm (4.9 ft) height.

By August 2010 the Nissan Cima, on which the final generation Q45 essentially was, had been discontinued in Japan, along with its Nissan President sibling. This made the second generation the marque's top-of-the-line flagship sedan. When the Fuga assumed the role as flagship sedan of Nissan Japan August 2010, it became the first time that Nissan didn't sell a premium luxury V8 sedan in Japan, although the Fuga's North American cousin, the Infiniti M56, is offered with a V8 shared with the. In May 2012, Nissan released a new version of the Cima in Japan, based on the Fuga Hybrid (Infiniti M35h). On 17 December, 2012, Infiniti announced that all of its future sedan offerings will use the Q prefix, starting from the Q50 as a G37 replacement, Q70 for its M35/45/56 replacement, and a rumored Q80 for the new flagship model. There have been some visual changes to distinguish the new 2015 model from the current 2014 version, but by and large this is the same swoopy and fluidic Infiniti has been selling since 2010. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing though, as I think the Q70 is one of the best looking cars in the class. The big news for the 2015 car is the addition of new technology and the announcement of a long wheelbase Q70L, specifically created to cater to the booming markets. Thankfully for those of us who enjoy the idea of extra rear legroom, the Q70L will be coming to the U.S.

So, I was simply waiting for Infiniti to launch a model to compete with the 4 Series. Call it coincidence if you like, but is working on a new coupe to rival Bimmer’s two-door coupe. Confirmed to be called the Q60 and previewed by the 2016 Q60 Concept, the coupe will be designed along the lines of the 2014 Q50 sedan. In other words, the relationship between the Q50 and Q60 can be easily compared to the one between the 3 Series and the 4 Series. Given the fact that the coupe will be a derivative of the Q50, I expect the standard, 3.7-liter, V-6 engine to power this two-door beauty. Likewise, the hybrid powertrain that combines a 3.5-liter, V-6 engine and an electric motor could make it into the Q60 as well to keep fuel-conscious customers happy. Although Infiniti had nothing to say about the Q60’s release date, the fact that the Q60 Concept debuted at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show suggests the production version is closer than expected.

My money is on the fall of 2015, but more details should become available in the second half of the year. Until then, read on to find out what the Q60 may have in store once it arrives in dealerships. Updated: Based on the recent Q60 Concept, we’ve created a rendering for the production version which is expected to arrive just in time for the 2016 model year.

After much teasing and waiting, Infiniti has unexpectedly released the first images of the Q60 Concept ahead of the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. It’s now clear to see Infiniti’s latest concept gets much of its design styling from the 2015 Q80 Inspiration and 2014 Q50 Eau Rouge concepts already in the public eye. While many of the design details and styling cues are borrowed, Nissan’s premium brand’s newest concept departs the sedan-type architecture for a smaller, 2+2 Coupe layout. This puts the Q60 Concept right in competition with the BMW 4 Series, Audi A5, Cadillac ATS coupe, Mercedes-Benz C-Class coupe, and the Lexus RC. We expect Infiniti to announce more details about the Q60 during its official debuting on Tuesday, January 13th, but aren’t expecting news about its drivetrain, price, and on-sale date — mostly because it’s still in concept form.

Those details will come when (or if) Infiniti pushes the Q60 coupe into production. Even still, we love to speculate. The current Q60 coupe features a 3.7-liter V-6 that’s worth 330 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. The new generation would surely see at least a moderate boost to those numbers. A hybrid version is also in the realm of possibilities, utilizing the smaller 3.5-liter V-6, a bank of batteries, and electric motors. Whatever the details and specifications, expect Infiniti to move the Q60 Concept into production as a replacement for the current car. What’s more, since the current Q60 is a derivative of the Nissan 370Z, it’s highly likely the Infiniti’s platform will underpin the next Z-car as well.

Infiniti may have just lost its two head honchos to other companies, but that is not stopping the company from growing, changing, and generally trying to be more awesome.

Along with talks of cars like a 4 Series fighter and the Eau Rouge concept, boss Carlos Ghosn told Autocar that Infiniti will also be expanding its market on both ends. The new Q80 concept is hitting production, and there will also be a smaller car called the Q20. Autocar talked to more than Mr. Ghosn.

While at the Paris Motor Show, they managed to spend time with Infiniti’s European boss Francois Goupil de Bouille, European design director Simon Cox and global design director Shiro Nakamura, with each one revealing more of Infiniti’s plans. De Bouille is quoted saying, “the Q80 is way more than a design study, this is our entry into the large saloon segment” confirming everyone thoughts about this becoming a real production model. Mr. Cox was even more informative when he let slip that there may be even more high-end cars in the portfolio: “Just because we’re doing the Q80 doesn’t mean that we’re not doing other high-end cars,' he said. Autocar speculates that this could mean that there will be a QX80 SUV that will line up against luxury offerings like the Range Rover.

The word of an Audi A1-fighting Q20 came straight from Shiro Nakamura himself. Infiniti has just started to make strides across the world’s markets, and it looks like the company is preparing a true onslaught of new and interesting products to take the fight to the competition. While everybody seems to be all caught up with the Q50 Eau Rouge, Infiniti is preparing another vehicle that’s expected to steal some shine away from the sports sedan. I mean that in a good way, of course. The model in question is called the Q80 Inspiration and not surprisingly, it’s headed to the 2014 Paris Motor Show.

The Japanese automaker is promising the world with the Q80 Inspiration, describing it as the peak of its model lineup. Those are big words for a company that’s been aggressively trying to reinvent itself as a premium brand capable of giving its German rivals a serious run for their money. If the Q80 Inspiration lives up to its hype, then you better believe that Infiniti will get the attention of BMW, Audi, and Mercedes.

Infiniti scheduled the Q80 Inspiration’s debut for October 2, 3:30 p.m. Local time in Paris.

Take Sebastian Vettel for instance, who has won four F1 drivers’ championship with Red Bull Racing. Not only does he get to drive and help develop the newest Infiniti vehicles as the company’s Director of Performance, he also has access to some of the most exclusive motorsport events. Most recently, the German became the first driver to lap the brand-new Formula One track in Sochi, Russia. The Sochi Autodrom course has just been completed ahead of its maiden F1 race on October 12th, 2014, and Vettel has been assigned with running the first full lap. But don’t expect to see him take on the 3.6-mile track in his Renault-powered Red Bull race car, as the German was handed an Q50 Hybrid for that mission. A little disappointing given the track’s race-oriented purpose, but at least we get to see a 369-horsepower hybrid being put through its paces in an unusual scenario. Sochi Autodrom will host round 16 of the 2014 Formula One season on October 12th.

The Russian race will be followed by the United States Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. Things are looking pretty good for Infiniti’s future despite having its worldwide president, Johan de Nysschen, jump ship to. Plans are already in place for a whole crop of new vehicles to debut by 2018, including a 700-horsepower, four-door coupe slotted over the current Q70 flagship.

Though Infiniti hasn’t officially named the sedan yet, the naming scheme dictates a Q80 or Q90 nomenclature. The car may share Mercedes’ modular, rear-wheel-drive platform, thanks to the $1.36 billion deal struck between the companies. Its power will come from an in-house, turbocharged V-6. Estimates of its power output of 600 to 700 horsepower comes from comments Nysschen made while still at Infiniti. The expected arrival date for the Q80/Q90 lands somewhere in 2017 or 2018. This 700-horsepower Porsche Panamera competitor would be in addition to the smaller Q50 Eau Rouge. Debuted at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show, the Q50 Eau Rouge makes uses of many GT-R parts, including its hand-built, 3.8-liter, turbocharged V-6.

Carbon fiber and other lightweight parts abound, making it a serious competitor to the Mercedes E63 AMG and BMW M5. Even with all that GT-R-level performance, Infiniti only expects to sell roughly 500 Eau Rouge sedans a year. That’s almost hard to believe, even with the Eau Rouge’s sticker price exceeding $100,000. Of course, Infiniti’s list of new or refreshed vehicles for the future includes many more. An overview of the automakers plans is below the jump. Click past the jump to read more about Infiniti’s future lineup.

The Infiniti Q60 actually began its life as the G37. But the company decided to adopt a new naming strategy in 2012, dropping its old nomenclature in favor of a new ’Q’ prefix for its coupes, sedans, and convertibles. That’s how the Q60 came to have its new name. The model is actually offered in both coupe and convertible configurations, offering customers a choice of enjoying the model with the top closed or tucked comfortably near the trunk. Naturally, new strategies also comes with new expectations. That’s what Infiniti had to overcome with the launch of the 2014 Q60 Convertible.

For the most part, Infiniti has a model that can really make a name for itself in an extremely competitive market segment. The Q60 Convertible still has some work to do if it wants to catch some mainstream love, but the good news is that Infiniti gave it a nice head start.

Click past the jump to read more about the 2014 Infiniti Q60 Convertible. Infiniti’s new Q60 Convertible is set to receive a special one-off design that pays homage to the great Bobby Unser. That’s the news coming out of the sub-brand when it announced the arrival of the special edition Q60 Convertible at the 2014 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance. This is the fourth consecutive year that Infiniti has had a presence at the gathering and this time, the company is making its attendance a memorable one.

Dressed in the same livery as the car Unser drove to win the 1968 Indy 500, the one-off Q60 Convertible looks deliriously stunning dressed in that red, yellow, black and white special wrap that honors the Rislone livery found on Unser’s Offenhauser-powered Eagle race car. Oh, and don’t forget the huge No.3 decals on the hood and the doors of the Q60 Convertible, which serves as another hat tip to the legendary race car driver. Not much else is known about the one-off Q60 Convertible Bobby Unser Edition other than Infiniti’s plan to showcase the model at the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance this weekend at the Pavilion Display where it will sit next to the same car where it draws inspiration from: Bobby Unser’s 1968 Indy 500-winning Eagle race car. We’ve first saw Infiniti’s IPL models back in 2011 when the company wanted to offer a more aggressive look and some extra power for its coupe and convertible models. The only problem is that the IPL line is nothing like a real high-performance sports car offered by or, like M or the RS line, but it can easily compete to models like BMW’s M Sport package or Audi’s S models. Just like with the coupe version, the Q60 IPL Convertible is distinguished by redesigned front and rear fascias, black elements here and there, specially designed wheels and, of course, some 'IPL' badges. Under the hood, the V-6 engine is tricked to deliver an extra 18 horsepower over the base 2014 Infiniti Q60. For the 2014 model year, the Q60 IPL Convertible is priced from $62,000.

Infiniti added the Infiniti Performance Line (IPL) to its lineup back in 2011 when it started offering more aggressive look and with more power under the hood. However, for those of you who expect to see an ultra-high-performance version of the Q60, we have to let you know that the IPL is nothing like the M4 or the RS line when thinking in terms of its performance increases over the base model.

The IPL is more like the 4 Series with the M-Sport package or the Audi S5. The IPL version adds redesigned front and rear fascias, black elements here and there, specially designed wheels and, of course, some 'IPL' badges. Also designed the interior to deliver more luxury and a sportier feel.

Under the hood, the Q60 IPL gains a few ponies over the base model. For 2014, the Q60 IPL is offered with two transmission options — a six-speed manual and a seven-speed automatic — with prices starting from $51,200. The model received a small facelift for the 2011 model year, but nothing else has changed since. For the 2014, Infiniti renamed it according its new naming strategy. The 'Q' refers to it being a coupe and the '60' indicates that is sits just above the Q50 sedan in Infiniti’s lineup.

The model didn’t receive any major updates, with exception of some updates to the exterior and interior colors, and some new standard features. Everything else remains pretty much unchanged, including the powerful V-6 engine found under the hood. As expected, Infiniti offers the 2014 Q60 in three different configurations: Q60, Q60 AWD and Q60S Coupe 6MT, with prices starting at $40,400 for the base model. Click past the jump to read more about the 2014 Infiniti Q60. At the end of 2012, Infiniti announced plans to change its naming strategy once again. The usual G, M, FX, EX names were dropped and all models will get new names prefixed by Q for sedans, coupes and convertibles, and QX, for crossover and SUV models.
