Zoom TAC-2 Demo The Zoom TAC-2 is a compact 2-in, 2-out bus-powered Thunderbolt audio interface that allows for ultra-low latency and supports audio up to 24-bit/192kHz. It features two balanced XLR/TRS inputs with 48V phantom power, a Hi-Z input jack for electric guitars and basses and two balanced TRS outputs for connecting an amplifier or powered speakers. The TAC-2 also features a Burr Brown PCM4202 analog-to-digital converter with mic preamps that provide up to +60dB of amplification.

It uses the AKM AK4396 digital-to-analog converter to provide high-quality output to your monitors, and thanks to the Thunderbolt connectivity, provides lower latency than is possible with USB 3.0. Rated 1 out of 5 by Audio pro from Terrible interface Works okay in my DAW with very low latency but stutters in audio playback from a media player. Terrible drivers. The faceplate is plastic.

Zoom

The large knob is plastic and feels wobbly which doesn't say a lot to its $ pricetag. The control knob is notched which makes fine volume adjustments impossible. I question a lot of design aspects of this product which seems more like a $ value. I wanted to like it because of it's portability and ability to be powered solely by the thunderbolt port but this product is just a failure. You can get plenty more IO and stability from USB audio interfaces at this price.

I'm returning this. Rated 2 out of 5 by kevinthegreat from Great - unless you swap between programs I'm a video editor and swap frequently between Safari, Premiere, AE, and Spotify. This interface delivers great, acceptable quality through my monitors.

However, the moment I switch out of Premiere onto say, Safari, I begin to get random crackles and pops due to some sort of discrepancy between each program's native audio signal output. That was a very brave stab at audio lingo, but I'm not claiming to be an expert in that field - however, these pops and crackles are annoying, and that's reason enough to want to get rid of these things.I've contacted multiple friends of mine who are engineers as WELL AS ZOOM - and the best answer my CS rep gave me at Zoom was This problem is normal and is actually found in a lot of interfaces out there - nothing we can do.Great. Long story short, looking to put this up on. sell for parts to the local mechanic. Steer clear all you Program Swappers! Rated 5 out of 5 by Chaz T. From Simply Charming!

Zoom Tac-2 has been around for I while. It caught my eye when I was shopping for a thunderbolt interface. There is zero latency on monitoring while playing. I figured this because, it's only two channel. Obviously thunderbolt can handle so much more.

In my many years of recording I find myself stripping down all the unnecessary hoop raw such as 4-8 channels of recording, crazy amounts of unneeded preamps, and network cables that rivals AT&T. My setup: MacBook Air - Zoom TAC-2 - 2x Kustom PA-50 Speakers. The Daw I use is Garage Band. I love this setup the box is light but very well made.

The single button rotary knob is perfect and requires a 30 second learning curve. It bus powered so the 9 hour Mac Air battery is more then capable of handling the Tac, 2 channels of phantom powered mics, and itself. The zoom software reverbs and delays are delightfully full and rich. The delay setting could use a tap tempo. (Only because I want to use it live).

Drums are fun to record with two channels. Kick mic for the kick drum (w/Gate) and a stereo condenser microphone dead center over the drum to capture whole kit and room. Editing is a charm. Latest php for mac.

I have a 88 key Casio (volume down as a controller) which I use for all my piano plug ins. It is midi through a Mio USB midi interface. I don't care at all, that the TAC-2 has no midi. I guess all I would add to this is a Thunderbolt to iOS Lightning Cable setup. The reviews below complain about crackling noise. I have never heard any crackling noise switching between softwares. Between: Garage Band, Reaper, Cubase 7, Safari, Apple Music, IK Multimedia Amprig 4, iMovie, and Spotify, there has been zero issues.

I love zoom products and have several. I'd highly recommend the Zoom TAC-2 too everyone. Quite honestly I don't know why the market is lingering on USB 2.0.
