I've been using a QuickCam Pro 9000 for some time in preference to an iSight because the camera itself is significantly superior. I get about 5 fps and it is just adequate for video chat. With iGlasses to boost low light levels the quality of the image is excellent, particularly for stills. Within the USB specs is the capacity to run the camera at up to 30 fps so it sounds as though the 9000 has been 'rebranded' for Mac but really the issue is that the software was written. Personally, I'm going to get one and sell the 9000 on eBay.

Erm, if you're only getting 1 frame per second, the problem is not your camera. So you're saying my G5 Quad isn't up to the task? I had many cameras installed and working via Macam drivers etc but the video quality was so bad I took them all back. (and it should have been obvious that my 'One frame per second' quip was a disenchanted dig at a crummy product.) The result of my trials is that all usb cameras are lousy on Macs. Apple really should get their act together and properly support usb cameras but instead wants to push people to upgrade their Macs. On their newer cameras you don't need to use their drivers.

That doesn't make the fact that they didn't bother to support their 'Mac' products for literally YEARS after the introduction of OS X. Believe me dude, I spent hours and hours on hold waiting to talk to a human being about this issue over 10 months trying to get someone to answer my question abut OS X support for a camera that was less than year old. Never got a live person on the phone, never got a response to any emails or support requests. Logitech is dead to me.
